v0.0.8 -- The Shield Update


We are so back.

  1. I have added the Shield pickup. When you kill an enemy, you have a 10% chance of it dropping a health pack and a 10% chance of it dropping a shield. An enemy will only drop up to one pickup. (The enemy always dops a coin.)
  2. If you pick up a Shield, your ship will gain a little shield sprite and enter the Shielded state. When you take damage, if you are Shielded, you lose the Shield and become un-shielded. In other words, picking up a Shield will save you from one (1) instance of damage.
  3. The player projectile speed is now 600, not 500. With the increased movespeed, the player ship can eclipse projectiles with only a few upgrades, and that feels weird. And faster-moving projectiles are cooler!
  4. I have increased the Wave Size by 1 for all rounds. This increases the difficulty, but keep in mind that more enemies means more chances for the (very powerful) Shield pickup.
  5. I have reduced the gold and XP yields from all enemies. The previous patch bumped them by 50%. This one reduces that boost to 20%. With more enemies and more ability to kill them, I was purchasing too many upgrades too quickly. This should nerf that a little bit while keeping the noticeable power spikes.

Next up on the roadmap:

  • Upgrades to implement lifesteal in some way. Could be flat per projectile hit, could be a percentage of damage.
  • Upgrades to increase the number of Ability charges you have, reduce your Ability cooldown, etc.
  • Implement a second Player Ship with different stats, a different weapon, and the ability to give itself a Shield as its ability (so, instead of dash).
