v0.4: A Boss Battle
Bustin' Blasters » Devlog
First Boss Is Here!
- Rounds 10 and 20 no longer have timers. Instead, to progress past the round, the player must destroy the boss.
- The boss you fight on Round 10 is identical in every way to the boss you fight on Round 20. This will not be the case soon. Ideally later today I will have an update for the scaling here.
- I have done some testing on the difficulty of the boss and I think it's passable. I beat it with the Engineer, who I think is maybe the weakest character(?) at the moment.
Other Changes
- I fixed a bug where projectiles fired by drones were not being upgraded properly. Again, the intention here is that the Drone fires an Auto Cannon bullet, and then that bullet receives the upgrades (damage, movespeed, size) that the player has purchased.
- I added a Game Over screen. It is the same as the Victory screen but it says Game Over instead. This means the player isn't kicked right to the main menu again after dying, which was pretty disorienting.
- I added a Back button to the top left of the Ability/Weapon selection screen. You can now return to Ship Selection if you made a mistake or otherwise want to revert your choice.
- Engineer is no longer shown the Projectile Count upgrade, as the Engineer does not have a weapon. I am open to the idea of putting this back and having Projectile Count apply to the Drones, but that might be too much. Or it could be fun!
Coming Up
- The boss's bullets are green and they are pretty difficult to see on some backgrounds. I will change the bullets to be red instead, or some other readily-visible color.
- I would like to add some more upgrades, I think the shop is a little small. Might finally be time to implement the economy upgrades.
- I would like to re-work the Engineer slightly. I like the core concept of a character that relies only on cooldowns and does not shoot, but I think this can be accomplished better. I'm considering giving the Engineer a weapon that spawns a turret on the Engineer's location when the button is clicked, and the turret fires bullets at nearby enemies. We'll see.
- New ship: The Perfectionist gets stronger with each second you don't take damage, and loses this bonus when you do.
- New ability: Give your projectiles the Piercing ability for some duration
- New weapon: Battering Ram. Click Fire to dash forward, damaging everything in your path.
- A second boss
- Boss variants
