v0.4.4: Critical Hits, More Sounds
New Feature: Critical Hits
Your weapon can now fire critical hits. Whenever you fire a bullet, you have a chance for that bullet to be a critical hit. If the roll succeeds, the bullet deals double damage and you will hear a special sound effect.
The starting values for critical-hit chance are as follows:
- Auto Cannon: 10%
- Rail Gun: 25%
- Heat Ray: 0%
There are now upgrades in the store to increase your critical-hit chance, too. These mirror lifesteal:
- Common: 30g, +2%
- Rare: 50g, +4%
- Epic: 75g, +6%
- Legendary: 100g, +10%
There is currently nothing stopping you from going above 100%, though there is no difference in gameplay between 100% and 101%.
I am considering making the Heat Ray incapable of critical hits (and excluding those upgrades from its store) but I would like to test this feature out first.
I Have Been Adding More Sounds
I started adding sound effects to the game in the previous patch, and this has some new ones as well. These events currently have sound effects:
- A menu item is chosen
- Player gets a shield
- Player's shield is broken
- Player is hit by a projectile or enemy ship
- Enemy is hit by a projectile
- The Heat Ray has overheated
- Player has fired a Critical Hit
- Player has fired the Auto Cannon
- Player has fired the Rail Gun
Just off the top of my head, I would like to add sound effects to the following events:
- Menu navigation (up, down, left, right on a joypad)
- Player picks up a coin
- Player purchases an upgrade
- Player rerolls the shop
- Player Dashes
- Player activates Burst ability
- Player activates Turbo ability
- Enemy is destroyed
- Player is destroyed
There are others too, I'm sure, but those are the big ones. The Heat Ray does not currently make a sound when it shoots, but you'll hear a sound when its projectile connects with an enemy.
I start my new job after Labor Day but I will not stop making this game, I WILL tirelessly work on this thing until it kills me.
